Kestrel® 4100 Pocket Weather Tracker Quick Start (Printable PDF)

Insert the 2 AAA batteries as indicated on the battery door.
- After the Introduction Screen appears for 3 seconds, the Date/Time Setup Screen will appear. Set the correct date and time using
and to adjust, and and to scroll.
- Press
to exit the Date/Time Setup.
- Press
again to exit the Main Menu.
- The Date and Time Screen will appear.
- Press
to scroll to the Current Velocity Screen.
- Press
to scroll to the Current Air Flow Screen.
- Continue pressing
for current readings of: Temperature, Wind
Chill, Humidity, Heat Index, Dewpoint, and User Screens 1, 2 & 3,
which show three measurements you choose in the setup menu.
- Press
to scroll through these screens in reverse order.
While viewing any of the Current Measurement Screens, press to view the Min/Max/Avg for the measurement. If there is no stored data, --.- will appear.
- Press
to view the Chart Screen for the measurement. If there is no stored data, the axis will appear but the chart will be blank.
- The factory setting for storing data, to be displayed on the Min/Max/Avg and Chart screens, is once per hour. You may choose a different interval in the setup menu.
- Press
to return to the Min/Max/Avg and Current Screens. From either Min/Max/Avg or Chart Screen, press or to see Min/Max/Avg or Chart Screen for the other measurements.
- When the Chart Screen is displayed, press
to view the details of the chart data. A cursor will appear on the most recent data point. The date and time of storage will be displayed below the chart, and the data value will be displayed above the chart. If there is no stored data, only the cursor and the axis will appear.
Press or to review the data points.
- Hold
or to quickly scroll through the data.
- Press
or to view the data for the other measurements at the same date and time.
- Press
to return to the normal Chart Screen.
- Press
to illuminate the backlight for one minute.
- Press
to manually store data. (Instruction Manual, page 9)
- Press
to enter the Main Setup Menu. (Instruction Manual, page 9)
- Hold
for 2 seconds to turn the unit off.
Air Flow
The Kestrel 4100 will display the volume air flow, based on the instantaneous air velocity and cross-sectional area of the opening through which the air is passing.
To set the dimensions of the duct or opening, press the button while viewing the AIR FLOW screen. The DIMENSIONAL SETTING screen will appear with the word SHAPE highlighted.
The shape of the opening can be selected by pressing the or button. The options are round or rectangular openings. Press the button to highlight the dimensional settings. For round openings, simply set the correct diameter of the opening. Use the and buttons to increase and decrease the value. Holding these buttons will increase and decrease the value quickly. For rectangular openings, set both the length and the width of the opening.
When the dimensional settings are correct, press the button to exit the DIMENSIONAL SETTING screen and return to AIR FLOW screen. Place the Kestrel 4100 in the duct air flow. The displayed air flow value will be the result of multiplying the instantaneous air velocity measured by the Kestrel 4100 by the area of the programmed opening.
You may change the dimension setting and airflow units in the Main Setup Menu.
